Five Pre-Employment Training Programs Launched in Nunavut

PMC has launched five Pre-Employment Training Programs in Nunavut, which fall into one of two categories:

  • Persons with barriers to employment: Baker Lake, Cambridge Bay and Pond Inlet
  • Youth, 18-29: Iqaluit and Arviat

The objective is to provide participants the self-awareness, skills, knowledge and confidence to find — and keep — employment.

There was a great deal of interest in the programs, with a total of 186 applications received from the following communities:

  • Arviat: 34
  • Baker Lake: 40
  • Cambridge Bay: 24
  • Iqaluit: 30
  • Pond Inlet: 41
  • Plus 17 in other communities

Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

Up to 16 applicants were accepted into each program, who will receive training in job search skills, including research, networking, interview preparation, and resume writing.

In addition, participants will have opportunities to visit potential employers, learn to use new technologies (like state of the art video equipment), attend seminars by guest speakers, and participate in cultural activities.

Be sure to follow PMC on Facebook to see photos of the programs as they become available!
